General Rules

Volunteers are required to follow the policies and procedures for the La Plata County Humane Society and Thrift Store. All Volunteers report to the Volunteer Coordinator. Detailed instructions about the duties for the day will be provided by the Department or Activity Manager if not already provided by the Volunteer Coordinator. 

All Volunteers must:

• Fill out an application

• Will be verified for any history of animal cruelty

• Wear a badge

• Attend orientation

• Report issues or concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator immediately

• Follow instructions 

• Wear appropriate clothing and footwear

• If you don’t know an answer to a question, please ask staff

• If you don’t know a procedure, please ask staff 

• Bring a positive attitude; your attitude affects the animals in the shelter
