La Plata County Humane Society is committed to enhancing and protecting the lives of companion animals by ensuring the provision and sustenance, safety, and shelter, educating the community regarding humane treatment of animals, and preventing pet overpopulation.

What We Do
Volunteer Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old, or have a parent or guardian to come with you while volunteering. Minors need to be at least 8 years of age.
- Complete a volunteer application both adult and minors need to complete applications. Attend a mandatory orientation.
- Wear your badge while volunteering
- Bring a positive attitude; your attitude affects the animals in the shelter.
Expectations
- Treat all animals, staff, and fellow volunteers with kindness, patience, and respect.
- Follow all LPCHS policies and guidelines.
- Report issues or concerns to the volunteer coordinator immediately.
- If asked a question and you do not know the answer, please ask a staff member.
- If you do not know the procedure, please ask staff for assistance.
